Introduction

In this section, you will find a review of the market situation for ethylene, propylene and benzene, as well as an analysis of the competitiveness of the European petrochemicals industry.

This information is supplied by the Business Intelligence Committee (BIC) of Appe, which provides Appe members with proprietary market intelligence data. BIC produces three statistical reports:

  • The monthly monitoring of monomers (MMS), which reports on production figures for ethylene, propylene, C4 cuts, butadiene and pyrolysis gasoline (pygas). A summary is issued on a quarterly basis and made publicly available.
  • The quarterly margins benchmark (GPCA), a sophisticated model measuring the competitiveness of European crackers relative to one another and to crackers elsewhere in the world. Quarterly reports are circulated to Appe members only.
  • The annual markets evaluation (PMRC), which reports on capacity, production, trade balance and consumption of major petrochemical derivatives on an annual basis. This confidential report is circulated on a limited basis exclusively to Appe members.

In addition to the statistical information generated by its Business Intelligence Committee, Appe contributes to the World Petrochemical Production Report issued by the International Petrochemical Information Forum (IPIF). This provides data on benzene, ethylene and propylene production for selected countries and continents (see table: 2008 World Petrochemical Production Report).
