The Methylamines and Derivatives Sector Group
Who we are
Methylamines are chemical intermediates. As well as the three methylamines: MMA (monomethylamine), DMA (dimethylamine) and TMA (trimethylamine), the sector group also gives support to first-degree derivatives and more especially Choline Chloride which is one of the major first-degree derivatives. End-uses of derivatives of the methylamines cover a great variety of applications. Major ones include detergents, agrochemicals, feed additives, pharmaceuticals, solvents, pulp & paper processing, flocculants, PU catalysts, explosives ... Methylamines are colourless highly flammable gases, making careful handling essential at all stages of their production, transport and use.
The Group brings together producers of methylamines and their derivatives (Akzo Nobel, BASF, Ertisa, Taminco) in Western Europe and is chaired by Sabine Ketsman, Taminco.
What we do
The principal objectives of the Methylamines and Derivatives Group are:
- To promote the use of methylamines and their first-line derivatives with scientifically sound arguments, taking into full consideration their health and environment aspects
- To develop a co-ordinated approach to health, safety, environment and technical issues
- To co-ordinate work concerning legal initiatives and within the framework of the ICCA HPV initiative.
